In celebration of this year's 25th New Zealand Music Month, we're excited to be releasing interviews with some incredible kiwi musicians, each sharing their perspectives on what it's like to be working and making a living in the Aotearoa music scene in 2025.
First up is award-winning singer songwriter and producer Anna Coddington, who took home the 2024 APRA Silver Scroll | Kaitito Kaiaka for her waiata reo rua 'Kātuarehe'.
"Everyone knows being a musician is not a path you choose for the money. I think it's gotten harder to really make money off original music, but royalties have always been a really important part of that and still are," Anna shares.
It means a lot to me to have businesses value the work of artists like me by paying their OneMusic fees.
It's not a lot of work to push play on your streaming site, but it is a lot of work to make it and it's nice to have that compensated and appreciated.
OneMusic exists to help businesses understand the importance of playing their part in the music industry ecosystem.
By paying a music licence for using background music, you're ensuring the rightsholders behind that music get paid their fair share.
Keep your eye out for more interviews we're sharing every week throughout NZ Music Month!
